Cannes Film Festival 2014

Cannes

At last my travels are finished for now; they have provided me with more experiences to enhance my writing – it’s a mostly fortunate way to go about my work.

One of the positive times was enjoying a three day invitation to the CANNES FILM FESTIVAL in May which included a fabulous ‘everything found’ evening aboard a yacht full of ‘WOWS’. This stemmed from my involvement in a film “The Knife That Killed Me”. I am informed that this film is going places next year. The guy that wrote it had chillingly written about a killing, then it took place making national headlines before his work had been acknowledged- very sad and foreboding – there was no way he could have envisaged or influenced this. To make matters worse the fatality happened to someone he admired.

This adds to the adage that Fact is often stranger than fiction.

The Cannes experience is only an hour away from our home in Provence and we have enjoyed being there as onlookers before. This time, however, walking with a group of men in silk suits or tuxedos accompanying their partners in extravagant evening dresses, added a new dimension.

As usual my roots had got the better of me and we took a bus into town one of the evenings. I ‘pulled’ amongst a group of local senior ladies, but ‘Hey’ – I’m no spring chicken and the mention of James Bond was not to be sniffed at. Sean Connery and Roger Moore are good company even if only for a few minutes.

The balmy evenings ashore lit up, in Technicolor, a beautiful smiling throng of expectant people on the Palm scented Mediterranean boulevard. The beach provided a sandy backdrop for small parties dotted about. How come the Med is blue at night?

The considerable police presence were in the mood also, exuding a powerful, yet light-hearted approach – yes, this was the place to be.
